Borgen, Tomlinson claim Modified wins on double features night at BRRP

​GLYNDON, Minn. (August 5, 2018) – It was a big night of racing Sunday evening at Buffalo River Race Park with a complete show for the weekly seven divisions, plus make-up features for the IMCA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, SportMods and INEX Legends. The make-up features were from the July 8th event, which had rain postpone feature action after the heats were completed.

Myles Tomlinson claimed his first career BRRP win in convincing fashion in the regularly scheduled IMCA Modified feature. Tomlinson led all 20 trips around the semi-banked quarter-mile. Behind him, Nick Curtis and Allen Kent traded the runner-up position. Kent held the position until lap eight when eighth place starter, Michael Johnson, took the spot.

Tomlinson went on to claim the win by 1.2 seconds over Johnson. Tyler Hall rounded out the podium, advancing 10 spots from his 13th starting position.

Bryce Borgen collected his first IMCA Modified feature win of the season in the make-up feature. Borgen took the lead from Jamie Schulz on lap three and never looked back. Borgen took the win by just under a full second over Rich Pavlicek. Pavlicek, who ran inside the top three all race long, took the second position away from Justin Jones with four to go. Jones, the 2014 BRRP Modified track champion, rounded out the top three.

Vince Jegtvig wheeled his way from the eighth starting position to pick up his first IMCA SportMod win at BRRP in 2018. Jegtvig made his way into the top five by lap three before making his way to the point on lap 12 of 20. Jegtvig made the pass for the lead, and ultimately the win, on Dan Dowling, who went on to finish second. Scott Jacobson came home in third.

In the make-up feature, Dowling backed up his runner-up finish with a win. Dowling took the lead on lap two from Mike Johnson and checked out. Dowling raced to his second win at BRRP this season by a margin of 1.867 seconds over Chris VanMil. Johnson came home third, a distant six seconds behind Dowling.

Tim Gonska and Brad Orvdahl picked up IMCA Hobby Stock wins. Both drivers took the lead on lap four and led the remainder of the event. The wins were Gonska’s fourth this season at BRRP and Orvedal’s first.

Tye Wilke returned to OutletRecreation.com Victory Lane for his second INEX Legend win of the season. Wilke took the lead from Kaitlyn Skalicky with seven laps remaining. Skalicky hung on to finish second.

In the make-up feature, Josh Julsrud captured the win. The race was led by young guns, Brody Carlsrud and Ryan Braseth in the early going. Julsrud, who started 10th, stole the lead with two laps to go for his first win this season.

Josh Abrahamson claimed the NLSA Lightning Sprint feature win with a last lap pass on Jason Berg. Berg, who was in search of his first career feature win, led 19 of the 20 laps, but came up just short at the checkers.

Abrahamson started second on the grid and ran second all race long before stealing the win on
the final circuit.

Tanner Engen collected his third Sport Compact win of the season.
